Excellent atmosphere with retro theme. Wall displayed with paintings of Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Charlie Chaplin….drawn by the owner. Pastries and coffee are fantastic with special selections. Staff are super friendly and helpful that you feel so homely. Nash and Ben are super cheerful. Don’t miss this gem cafe when you come Penang.

On my first evening in this fab island, after checking in at my hotel, nr Chulia St, I went for a walkabout—searching a coffee shop to relax after my train/ferry journey. As it was about 10pm I noticed many cafes were closed. Poor me, I desperately wanted to chill with a nice iced latte! Thankfully I walked down Beach Rd—where's the beach?!—and discovered what has turned out to be the best coffee shop in Malaysia; after 6 weeks of travel. From the exterior it doesn't look anything special: very black facade, minimalist and the building non-discript. As they say, appearances can be deceptive. So, relieved to find a coffee shop still open (after 10pm), the first thing in entering I noticed was the fantastic artwork on the walls. I was greeted by a very friendly barista, called Nash. She told me the owner used to be an artist (and art teacher) and that most of the artwork in the cafe is by him. She kindly invited and encouraged me to snap photos. What a superb first impression! There's really well executed portraits of famous musicians, from John Lennon, Michael Jackson to starlets such as Monroe. Additionally, being the talented man he is, displayed are several brilliant whimsical sculptures, from a touching and fun portrayal of his parents sat on a sofa to Charlie Chaplin. The further you go into this place the more you discover there are in fact several rooms in succession; the building is deceptively very long! There's also an upstairs area (from the outside the place looked tiny!). Each room is decorated with glorious art, lush high quality leather sofas; the interior design is superior to anything you'll find in the chains like Starbucks or Zus—the place has clearly been designed with a labour of love and attention. As you can see the place is worth visiting just to check out the coolest and most beautiful coffee shop/cafe in Malaysia. Now to the beverages. There's your standard fare e.g. iced lattes, but where this amazing place differs from others is in their range of speciality coffees (see my photo of the drinks menu): ever tried a 'beer' iced Americano? Or, an iced Okinawa latte (except of course if you're Japanese)? Being a lover of anything Japanese (except what they did in WWII) and enjoying trying new drinks/foods I chose the iced Okinawa latte. And boy I made a brilliant decision as it was absolutely delicious! I can tell Nash, the lovely and friendly barista (who incidentally speaks several languages—v clever girl), takes her job seriously and with passion as she took quite some time to make my Japanese coffee; this particular drink takes a long time to prepare. I also had an iced matcha latte which was delicious too. As you can see from photos, as this is officially—yes, according to me and I matter!—the best coffee shop in Malaysia they have a good tea and soft drinks menus, as well as an extensive range of cakes (crepe, jackfruit crepe and tiramisu cakes—in all sorts of flavours from mango to lychee). I'm fact the pretty and colourful cake display outside seems to grab most visitors attention. They also have a small food menu, from chicken to fish and chips. I had the nasi lemak (spicy chicken and rice) which, not surprisingly, was yummy. The prices, while not cheap, are reasonable (e.g. iced latte RM14, iced matcha latte RM16) considering the absolutely beautiful interior you get the opportunity to drink, eat in and the shear quality of the product. The place is always busy (but with many seats available to choose from), lively and it's the kind of space you could spend all afternoon relaxing.

The staffs are super friendly and helpful too, with great charisma and cheerful smile. Making your visit a memorable one. Highly recommended and good to know that they are opening in KL soon.
